much needed rest

today was mostly uneventful, not to imply that it was easy, however. the discomfort from the chemotherapy has increased as the pain from the chest tube has decreased. the barrage of pills and fluids have finally slowed ellen down. she sleeps most of the day trying to keep from getting sick and she is not eating much.

we met with a few doctors today including dr. gollob and everyone said that she is doing well. the fluid from her chest has slowed considerably and they think that the tube may come out on sunday or monday.

todd arrived late last night and was here first thing this morning. even though she has a very difficult time mustering any kind of conversation, she loves the company. of course she wants to make sure that everyone is entertained and says, repeatedly, "let me nap for 20 more minutes, then i'll be able to talk." the chemo has other plans.

Oh, I hope that garden-hose-sized tube comes out as soon as possible! and I am glad to hear Ellen is sleeping - that's when the body is supposed to do most of its healing. I am going to wish you a nice quiet weekend with progress for Ellen and sleep for everyone!

Ryan,

Best wishes for a Speedy recovery for Ellen. A wise old man told me once that life is 10% what happens and 90% how you react to it...I've always felt that positivity is one of the best ways to fight a illness. Best wishes to you and your wife

Here's hoping that tube stuck in your chest
Comes out soon- so you get more rest
Even if you have no taste-
You need your strength so do not waste

Be kind to doctors- nurses too
What they say is what to do
Happy thoughts is what we think
Even though this whole thing stinks

Ryan: You so exemplify the words that we all so love: Faith, Hope and Love, and the greatest of these is Love. So many prayers will turn this cancer around. I wish you and Ellen a peaceful weekend. You are both in our hearts and prayers. Love, Anna Turner and Bob Hillhouse

Hi Ellen and Ryan,
First-Ryan, your keeping everyone up to date has been amazing!
It sounds like the unexpected hurdles have stopped for a while! Great news to hear that the tube will be removed soon.
You may have seen this before, but I thought it would give you a laugh. About 6 months ago, Brent forwarded this site to Joe.

I know-you are thinking- "air guitar?", but I will just say Andy Litz on air guitar. Check it out!

Sending my love and prayers,

Hi Ellen and Ryan, it's Morgen. I am not smart enough to create an account yet! This is my first time EVER "blogging". Doing it just for you!! I am happy to hear that the tube is coming out soon. Sleep all you need; it's your body and the chemo fighting off the bad stuff. I am sure it probably seems so hard right now, but both of you are so strong, and have a great love for one another ~ This will only make you both stronger, so when you look back in years to come, you will see just how strong you are. I hope that you got my emails and texts/phone calls, and that they brought a little smile to your faces. I hope I am not bothering you too much! It is nice to read your blogs and see how you are doing each day. Again, I am happy to come down if you need me at all, but no entertaining!! Or after you get back, I am happy to come down to Canton whenever {great reason for me to take some of the days I have accumulated! :) } Trev and I think of you each day and say a prayer for you and Ryan each night. Both of you take care. All my love, Morgen

You both are in my thoughts and prayers. Ellen, your mom is an amazing woman and I know you are too. Ryan, you seem to be exactly the medicine Ellen needs.

My mom has you on her pray list too, and she is the next best thing to a saint.

Ellen and Ryan,
I know we've never met but I feel like we have. I learn more each day through your blog about the new research available for melanoma just since my experience 3 years ago. It is amazing the progress that has been made in such a short period of time! And I know that it, along with all our prayers, will help to get you through this. I will have my church (Union Ave. United Methodist in Alliance,OH) praying for you as well.
But for now sleep is the best thing for you. I know that when I was on Interferon I slept the entire year! And as a result I remember very little about those 12 months! As it turns out, that was a good thing! I think it will be that way for you as well, just a bad dream that you will only remember faintly.
