continuing progress

we met with dr. gollob early this afternoon. ellen's creatnine count is up to 1.8. that is up again from yesterday but it still isn't rising at the alarming rate that it did during the last course of treatment. he told us that all of her blood counts are down, slightly, but that they aren't down further than expected. everything is following the same trend that it did during the last course. the good news, though, is that nothing seems as severe as it was before.

over the next few days, if the trends hold, she should gradually feel better and get some energy back. hopefully she can get out of bed and go for a walk, maybe have something to eat. this time, however, we will discourage her from a krispy kreme for her first meal. it will be exciting again, when she says that she's hungry, but we won't make the same mistake again.

the plan going forward, as dr. gollob explained, is to help ellen recover from the treatment and allow her body to rebound. in a few weeks she will have a cat-scan to determine the effect that the treatment is having on her body. at that time, it will be decided whether she will continue on with this type of chemotherapy.

keep sending good thoughts.

Hi Ellen and Ryan, We made it back to Canton with no Labor Day traffic problems. Ellen, it was so helpful to see you looking good with your new do, thanks to your husband/stylist. To see the caring, efficient staff in action at the medical center as they stepped over all of us was a comfort. Although you were dozing Ellen, I hope some of the giggles as we told stories from long ago filtered in and made you smile inside. No one has been loved more than you by your husband and parents, and I know you can feel the love. Ryan, since it is close to midnight I hope you have already "pushed back" for the night in your recliner and are settled in for a more peaceful night tonight. As we passed a semi on the West Va. Turnpike this afternoon, someone had written in the dirt on the back with their finger, "With God all things are possible". Believe it and count the blessings, no matter how small that come each day as you sit by Ellen's side. Love, Aunt Connie and Uncle Chuck

I almost don't want to say it aloud, in case the cancer can hear me, but this is a situation which may be the beginning of better news. We will keep praying and hoping. There is so much spirit here in North Canton for Ellen to beat this - if spirit could do it alone it would be done already. Hugs all around.

Krispy Kreme is better than nothing! But I don't want to start a fight with anyone...I just think it would be super to have Ellen request any food right now...if she starts to call out for spinach and blueberries then all the better! Everyone take care...

Well, E, I hope this finds you feeling a bit better. Perhaps a little neighborhood update will lift your spirits (that's lift, E, not drink).

When you are home, there's nothing you don't miss...you have some sort of specialized radar to know what's going on!

As you are out of town, that mantle has fallen on my sunken, aging shoulders.

Lots of weird people are moving around your place, largely unidentified: the two crazy dudes who show up in your yard. The peasant woman with the chain saw. In fact, lots of it is pretty unpredictable: like I was gone all weekend and somebody messed with your yard... nice cut, but wasn't done by moi. This isn't quite Roswell or crop circles, but veeerrrry interesting.

But, I digress. Ryan has probably told you about my special concern for and love of ... cats. So, whenever, there's dehumidifyer water to be emptied, I am like there for your cat. And, I am always ready to give ol Nugent some special affection, even when the little bugger is racing around my feet and nipping at my toes (usually as I am heading for the door). I thought I was pretty tolerant even when he displayed his urinary problem. Didn't think he was mean or anything, just maybe BHP and might have needed to see the vet. Heck, I was willing to even rip up all the carpeting he'd ruined. My love hath no boundaries.

Ok, the cat, strange neighborhood people... you ask:where are you going with this DR?

E, as an expression of all my love for God's creatures, I got Nugent help. Serious help.

I called in the heavy artillery: the Cat Whisperer.

Yep, there is a little known, somewhat mysterious person who will go to your home, even on the hottest days, when there is absolutely no air, and sit and talk to your cat. She is a communications master. Cats according to the Cat Whisperer are the most intelligent animals on the planet (smarter than most husbands). Can learn anything. Nothing real extreme if you just speak nicely (although there are reports she did break the tail off her cat "communicating" enthusiastically her love).

I am very pleased to give you this interim report that your cat is getting the message! In fact, the Cat Whisperer leaves the house with all the toilet seats up!!!!!!! How about that!!!!

Long story short, Nugent now has a kind of therapy the situation warranted. And, it seems to be working. The Cat Whisperer goes through the door and shouts: Neeewwwww-Geennnttt! Amazingly, he won't go near the carpets. In fact, when he hears that special call.. he's not on the carpet, the beds or the furniture... we can't even find him now!

The Cat Whisperer has really done the trick on the old boy... and all without electricity, or wires or any device. Just apparently the soothing sound of her voice has taken him to a higher level of perfection.

E, there is one heck of alot you are missing. Get on home here to ID some of the strange folk moving down Ambler... and before Ol Nugent needs some deprogramming.

PS... Thanks to the Cat Whisperer, Ol Nugent doesn't seem to be even interested in the litter box... can we just take it away?

talk with you soon
