nothing on tv

i asked ellen to help me with something to write this evening.

nothing really happened again today. she slept most of the time. i took another liter off her stomach earlier in the day. when she was awake she had plenty to drink and a few bites of a ham & cheese sandwich. she went on a short wheelchair ride but felt nauseous so we had to cut it short.

that brings me to the title of this post. when i said, "i don't know what to write. can you help me?" she said, "just write that there isn't anything on tv."

done.

Just stopping by to catch up on things.
We just got back in town, your blog was the first thing I checked!
I'm glad to hear things have been uneventful.

My mom wants to go to Vegas for my 30th birthday. Since that is two years away you'll have plenty of recovery time and maybe we can all go out there. It was fun, lots to see and do. We didn't win anything though, but had a great time losing!

It's just the pits when there is nothing on TV! I am so upset that we can't get the Ohio State games at all. That's just wrong! Glad to hear things are uneventful. Keep up the good work! Hang in there!

No kidding - there was NOTHING on TV today! Rich is in heaven because I've allowed him to watch all the football and UFC crap he wants. I've been catching up on my celebrity gossip through my magazines. It is fashion week in NYC and I have yet to meet any of my "friends", but it goes through Wednesday and I finally had the bright idea to look up where they are located and I think I might go stalk. Should be interesting. More importantly, I'm glad things seem to be going better this round. I love you so much and am praying for you and thinking about you, your hubby, and the rest of the fam every day. Take care and stay strong!

Hi Ellen & Ryan,

Glad to hear Ellen is progressing so well.....Go Ellen walk those halls.

Tom & I just got back from Becky Dunlaps wedding, and it was just beautiful. She got married on the beach in Sandusky, and the rain held off until the wedding was over. We are now in our room watching the NASCAR race, you can always watch that, its better than nothing.

Hope you all have a wondereful nite.

Love to you all,

Jo Ann & Tom

Dear Ellen and Ryan,
You are right about TV. Every night Daryl says what is on TV, and then he falls asleep. I cannot wait for all the new fall shows!! We did watch some football today tho. Sending lots of positive energy and prayers your way.

Saturday night is always the absolute worst on TV. I am not
sure why. I always watch the old
reruns of friends ( I never get
tired of them) which I am right now. I think I have seen all of then, but every now and then I
see one I haven't seen. Glad Ellen
ate a little and got around a little today. As always there is
an abundance of prayers and positive thoughts coming your way.
Love, JoAnn G

Perfect post! See you think you are putting something there just to write something, and you have started a discussion thread! (Ok-can you tell I have taken some online classes?)

There was nothing to watch, no movies we could all agree on--so I did what I probably dislike the most in the whole world--clean!!! Maddie and I attacked her room, and ended up with 4 huge garbage bags for Goodwill, 1 full of trash and a few small ones to give to her friends! She had way too much stuff. She is very creative and artsy, so she would rather make something up or create with different (any kind) of media. So she gave away her barbie house, but kept all the dolls because she likes to play fashion with them and do their hair. But she got rid of all of her my little ponies and most of her dolls and half of the stuffed animals. She kept the mentioned barbies and art stuff, along with dress up clothes, games, build a bears and her few elephants, and every monkey that she has. She stated that she no longer wants the Disney princesses that I spent days painting on her walls a couple of years ago(3 foot versions of Belle, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella). She now wants a jungle on her walls with monkeys swinging from trees!

Marcus wants his boat wall painted over and transformed into Spiderman 3 central! At least Tristan is happy with his walls--but I don't think you can go wrong with a Viking head and NC. Maybe that will last through Middle School. But, I can only blame myself as I like to change things so much. Before I decided to work, it never seemed to take up so much time to repaint a room.

As we clean the house pretty much from top to bottom, at least I can say that Joe gets to do the crappy part of dusting. I have had this cough for a few days that I get to have checked out tomorrow that Joe thinks is some infection--so he has done all the dusting and sweeping!

It looks like it is going to be another dreary day! I think I will have a lazy day and rest up. Joe will be gone pretty much all week with a new hospital/client going live. So he will be out there training people and finding new sushi places I am sure. I think this is the one a couple of hours away from Chicago, but I should probably find out. It is hard to keep his schedule straight.

So I hope you have another uneventful day with small progress continuing every day! Keep drinking those fluids, eat a little, and get out of the room as you feel up to it! Let your body continue to fight the bad C, and keep positive! Remember that you have a support sytem that is bigger than any of us can think possible. Everywhere I go, people say that they are praying for you and monitoring the blog. Many know you, but there are also many that know of you because of your many friends and family. Now one has to think of how so many of your friends live in different parts of the country, so what I see in NC is happening all over!

Sending my love, prayers, and positive energy your way as always-Jen

Hi Ellen and Ryan,
Having a somewhat uneventful day can be good; it gives Ellen time to sleep and heal and allow her body to gain its strength.
This bout of treatment was just as tough as the first, but it seems as if Ellen is handling it a little better...even enough to eat a few bites.
You are always in my prayers and I continue to send positive energy and thoughts and stataements your way. The angels are watching over you,Ellen and protecting you... keep believing.....
Love, Marcia
(there will be better T.V. on Sun.)

Hey Ellen,
I just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you. I am in the process of restaining furniture with Matt (what a disaster!) At this point I would rather buy all new instead of this mess! Oh well, live and learn.
I am glad to read that you are doing well. You know that they say, "No News is god news." Having uneventful days and nights are good to hear about. Stay strong! Have a good Sunday!
Love,
Laura French

Ellen,
In spite of all that is going on you STILL make me laugh. I know what you mean about TV. Last night we ended up watching old Nancy Drew films on DVD with the kids (from 1938 and in black & white). They are actually very good! I couldn't watch Dan and the kids play any more Wii. Preston played it for about 3 hours solid yesterday. When I made him get off he just picked up with Game Boy. Only 5 and already an addict.

Today is rainy and boring. Hope you are still making progress today. Keep up the good work! We love you and miss you. Preston asked if he could come see you :)

Looking forward to more good news every day!

Hello Ellen and Ryan~

I was introduced to your story-blog by Margie Blake. Since that introduction, I've kept up-to-date with Ellen info and continue to pray for you all.

A couple things have impressed me recently and I want to share, please.

First, isn't it amazing how we come to educate ourselves in this type of a situation? Knowing what creatine levels mean to our existence, how taking off liters of periteneal fluid improves a body, finding out just how fragile a body truly is.

Second, "Nothing on TV". Wonderful! When I think about the programming that you've been subjected to recently, it's a wonderful thing that there's nothing on TV.

I'll send you my prayers of continued strength, many more bites of food, fewer required abdominal drainings, nights of uninterrupted healing sleep, and good health.

Ellen & Ryan,

Glad to hear things are uneventful and that you are further along then the last treatment. That is great news and puts a smile on my face.

We had Nathan's birthday party yesterday and he had a great time. He wore himself out playing. He was asleep at 6:30 PM and woke up at 7:30 this morning. He loved the bear you and Suzy sent. He puts it on the floor and hugs it, its adorable. Thank you so very much for thinking of him on his first birthday.

Hopefully TV will be a little better today for you guys.

You continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Love, Dave, Krickett & Nathan

Hi Ellen and Ryan, Hang in there for better TV. Monday night: Wife Swap, Fat March, and Super Nanny. My three favorites for mindless TV fun. Ryan, in your honor I now put 3 packs of sugar in my coffee instead of two, I didn't know what I was missing! Happy to hear there was a walk down to the fifth floor for change of scenery. Isn't that where the fishtank is? Thankful there is more time spent talking and eating, even though it is minimal, these are all steps in the right direction along with restful sleep. Take care, I will continue to pray for continued good reports. Love, Aunt Connie

How true!!!!! I really can't even say I have a favorite show. I'm always looking for a good movie, that I have probably watched a zillion times. Glad to hear Ellen is doing more ( eating, sleeping, and getting around). Thinking of you all... God bless you .... Love Aunt Nancy

Hi Ellen and Ryan,

September is the worst for TV. Especially in this day of reality TV. There really aren't even any good reruns!!!!! The good shows will start again in a few weeks, and then we can all be couch potatoes and watch til our hearts content. Ryan, we saw your mom and dad at the Columbiana street fair last night. How nice it was to see them and to get caught up with them a little bit. They both look so good. Glad that things have remained fairly uneventful for you both. We are praying for continued positive progress.

Take care,
Love,
Paul and Fredda

The old saying "no news is good news " sometimes is the best. Glad to hear Ellen is eating and getting a little energy walking or wheeling around. I am sure the time sometimes drags by but it will all be worth it in the end. Looking forward to the time you can post that you guys are coming home and all of the tests are the best possible readings.
Take care of all of you - Sending thoughts and prayers always

Nate & I laugh that we never even knew the night tv schedule for Friday & Saturday nights until I was pregnant, and now, parents. :) Now, I can tell you what we could watch on quite a few of the decent channels at any time of the day... seriously, El, try me. I'm like the E! channel, too. Lindsey, Britney, Paris, and Owen... I am so in the know. It's sad. Nate told me that if I keep treating E!, People, and USWeekly like the gospel Bella will be damaged. I think she'll be well-versed. :) I can send you my copies if you want... they are awesome reads and phenomenal crossword puzzles. You feel smart after doing these.

My tv suggestions... get a DVD player, and rent the first season of Big Love. It's an HBO drama that is incredibly well-written, funny, and interesting. It's awesome. Nate & I are hooked. The second season just ended, and it was fantastic. Also, HBO's Entourage has a few seasons and they are hysterical. Ryan would like them, too. Also, if you want to kill brain cells, Sunday nights on VH1... the Rock of Love with Bret Michaels, yes, of Poison, is the next Flavor Flav of dating shows. It's so trashy it's delicious.

If you don't know me and are reading this, please do not judge me by my tv interests! :) It's summer and there is nothing on... bring on the fall schedule!

El, stay strong and fight the fight. You have a great man, parents, and friends, by your side.

xo Sommer Bradds

PS Bella is 4.5 months old and she "found" her feet today. She was staring at them and actually jumped in fright when they moved. :)

Monday morning....
We know this is an important week for you and we hope that all the news is good. Many prayers in your direction!

So glad you are eating as much as possible and that you are more comfortable because of the tube.

Your TV comment made me laugh! We agree, TV... all reruns now....new shows coming soon. Hang in there!

You are both always in our thoughts, Jim and Libby
