a note from ellen

hi everyone,
i decided since i was just sitting on the couch i would do the entry for the blog today and give ryan a much deserved break. although i must be honest and say he is on his way to mcdonalds to get me a big mac. it was that or cherrios for dinner but the commercial for mcdonalds won out!

i have slept most of the day to try to rest up for my visit tomorrow from hilary and jo ann. they are flying in together for the day just to visit! i am so excited to see familiar faces again just even for the day!!! i know they will supply me with hours of good laughs and stories that i have missed recently.

we do have a doctors appt. tomorrow morning at 10am for some lab work and I am sure we will find out at that time when I may go back in the hospital. i was hopeful to keep this moving so i can go on my 2 month stint to come back home. i hope to be home by the end of august or else we are going to have to start a serious rotation because ryan will be back full time and so will my mom. i hate not having ryan here and don't want to do this without him down here. probably because he bends over backwards for me and has seen me sicker than anyone (including my parents have). there is something to be said about that. we will just have to wait and see though. i have too many other things to think about than that. i need positive things to keep happening with my health!

you don't realize until a situataion like this occurres how much you need someone in your life that you love so much. i used to think before that i could handle it all and it didn't matter if it was just me. i have no idea what the heck i was thinking? obviously i am young and do not have any clue what it means until now. i do know now though.

hope all is well with everyone. please still keep me in the loop about stuff. i still LOVE to hear stories and what to know what is going on your lives so please make sure you still let me know.

lots of love,
ellen

Hi Ellen, I really wish I could have come down with JoAnn and Hilary. I would love to see you and talk to you. Maybe I will give you a call tomorrow while JoAnn is there to make sure she is behaving!!!! I am so glad you are out for awhile even though the apartment is not quite home. You are so right about having Ryan there for you. You need his strength and love more than ever. Funny how we don't realize what gems we have and how we take things for granted. Have a good time tomorrow with the girls. JoAnn will be bringing a hug from me! How was the Big Mac????? Love ya, Cathy

Nugent is getting the royal treatment- I just hope Stubs does not get jealous. Let me know when you need more soup!
Miss you- Lots of prayers your way

hi ellen!!
jo ann just stopped by my house so she would know where it is and not be driving aimlessly at 4:45 tomorrow morning. See how much I miss you...I am getting out of bed at 3:45 in the MORNING! Maybe if you need a nap tomorrow I will take one too :) Can't wait to see you. If you are still in the mood for greasy junk food tomorrow you could probably force me to eat it with you!
see you soon!
Hilary

Hi Ell and Ryan,
Ell it is so nice to "hear" your voice. It is so great to know that you are in such great hands with Ryan. He is wonderful and is the best husband and friend a girl could ask for. He is a true blessing!
Hope you are enjoying being away from the hospital for some time and that you are getting strong and the rest to fight this again! Doug and I are thinking of you all the time and praying for all good to come to you. I wish we had some exciting news to share with you...
I can't wait to see you!
It is funny with this blog...I keep thinking back to high school and college days and all the crazy times we had...When you are feeling 100% we all need to get together for a "reunion"!!!
miss ya,

Hi Ellen...It's so very wonderful to know that you even feel up to writing the blog today. It's inspiring to all of us to know that. It makes us feel like all of our prayers are being answered.

Hope you got the email with all the other "Gray Girls." We sure had you in our hearts there with us last night.

Ellen! Again it is nice to hear your "voice." I think it is unanimous that Ryan is a special guy for a special you. Jo Ann is bringing hugs from all of us at the chamber, and I am sure she will catch you up with Main Street Festival news. I think we are on track - we have 75 crafters, the merchant tent is full, the entertainment schedule is full (as you well know) we have all the food vendors we need (minus apple dumplings) and the City is still on board to pick up trash! Enjoy your time out of the hospital - and your visit with Jo Ann and Hilary.

Ellen,

It is great seeing your writing on your blog. Your comments bring alot of life into perspective; what you may think you can handle alone vs. having family & friends. Even though I don't know you as well as your family & close friends, reading your daily blogs makes one wish they could reach out to help you go thru this endeavor & to take the discomfort off your shoulders. I am excited for you knowing that JoAnn & Hilary is flying in to see you - may your day be wonderful & full of laughter. I would like to think that between Ryan & your parents, they help give you that safety net of comfort & if there was more that I could give I would do so. May the many prayers be felt & give you & Ryan the peace you two are so deserving of. May your doctor's app't be enlightening as I will be looking forward to hear your positve progress. There will be a day when you are back in NC where your many friends can give you a warm hug. For now, enjoy the McDonalds !!

Take Care,
Barry K.

Ellen, it's great to hear "from you". I know you'll stay positive, and I will stay 1 million percent positive for you too. I trust God is watching over you and your family. As I've written over the past days, I've not mentioned that Mark and Jacob are thinking about you too. Jacob asks alot. You and Todd are a sort of a "Role Model" for him. He still remembers your camping trip to Delaware, along time ago, when he was a little boy. You and Todd were much younger. He also loves xmas every year and all of us sharing our 2 families. Anyway, I could go on. We all want you to know that we're thinking of you and your family all the time. We care so much. I keep your mom in my thoughts and prayers too.
With Love, Mark, Ami and Jacob H., Lucas too:)

Well stop just sitting on the couch and do some of that art work you're talking about !
Enjoy your Micky D's, although I prefer Arby's 5 for 5.95. But that's just food.
Savor every moment away from the regimented hospital routine and just enjoy this time with your husband, family and friends.
Wishing you all of the strenth, courage and love to sustain you in the days full of rainbows and sunshine ahead!

Hi El,
It was great to hear your words:)
Hope you enjoyed the McDonald's! I myself just had 2 tacos from Taco Bell:) So naughty, but oh so good. I flew into Columbus today from San Diego. I am at my brother's house right now (it is 2:30am) and then we will drive back to NC tomorrow afternoon to begin the festivities for my mom and Bob's wedding on Saturday! All my fam is in from New Orleans. I will be thinking about you and praying for you a lot of the time. I just wish you were here for me to see you. It will not be the same in NC! Next time though, or maybe I can come to Durham soon. Keep up the improvement!! I am so happy to read about it. God is working with you. With strong faith and loving support "this too shall pass!!" Ryan is so great! Tell your mom and dad "hi" too!
I wish you good night and hope to hear your voice soon. I love you!

Ellen, I am up early this Wed. morning. Ryan and Kristin will be home later and I have a million things on my mind. Just read a quote and it reminded me of you: "When we do the best that we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another. Helen Keller That miracle will be you. Have a wonderful day. Love, Anna Turner

Hey El - it's so good to hear you up and about and eating a Big Mac - I love it! And I have to let you know that in your honor I had a huge frosty on Monday night:-) You and Ryan make a great team - I am so proud of both of you! Keep up the fight and know that you are in my prayers every day. If you ever need a person for shifts - just call me and I'll be there in a second! Love and miss you!

Good morning, Ellen! Yes, it is Wednesday, and we are behind. But thats us, you know! Please keep up the desire for greasy junk food. With Hilary there today, eating healthy is completely out of the question. Its quiet here today. I know its golf day - but we're missing the both of you, too. Sure wish Hilary could bring you back with her. We certainly miss you!!!!!!

I hope we hear more good news about that appointment you just had!

You and a Big Mac--takes me back to food stops after matches. As I sat here and read the blog, I was eating my salad. I wish I could go back to those times when I could eat a Big Mac (ok, I won't lie-2 combo meals)without thinking about calories!
Todd was saying how they got rackets and were playing. I need to get mine restrung, so that when you are home we can hit the court.
Don't worry about when your mom and Ryan come home--we will shift things out. You just call me and I'll be there.
Sending love your way, Jen

Hi Ellen,

We're thrilled to hear you are feeling well enough to update the blog. It puts a smile on our face. Can you believe it...Nathan is 11 months today. It seems like yesterday you were visiting us in the hospital and bringing him the cute little bear, pumpkin hat and booties. Hopefully you'll get to see him soon, he is getting so big and he crawls all over the place. He has come to like cat food so I'm constantly chasing him away from the cat bowls.

Love, Krickett & Dave

Hi Ellen and Ryan, Cheerios and Big Macs, two of the most important food groups if you ask me. Next time, get both! Your blog was great, I could just hear your voice and it was so nice. What's new here? It's HOT! Braving the heat to get my classroom ready little by little. Praying for an encouraging visit to the doctor and more and more news about better health on the way. Love, Aunt Connie

It is so nice to "hear your fingers" typing a message Ellen. And I have not eaten in McDonald's in many many months but may just stop to have a Big Mac in your honor tonight! (It is very hot here and I don't want to cook!)
And you need some calories so if it sounds good, eat it!!

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Ryan, but he is a hero in my mind! As you know I have loved and lost and the saying is true. Better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all. You two have something very special. I am thrilled for both of you. Cherish each other! It has been by the grace of God that a second wonderful man is in my life. I spent nine years alone and realize that what you said is so true. Two people sharing a life together is what it is all about. Isn't it amazing how those vows we speak are so meaningful...........as is everything that has lasted thur the ages. "better, worse, sickness and health"...it is so neat to listen to Ryan update us and feel the love he has for you.

Take care of each other! And keep eating!

Just checked McD's website and Big Mac sales are skyrocketing today for some unknown reason! Hope yours tasted as good as the one I had to have for lunch today...couldn't get it out of my mind...my diet thanks you! Glad you're feeling better Ellen and that you and Ryan are "home" and getting some real rest. We love you...keep fighting.

Krispy Kreme, Big Mac...good for you, El! I agree with Holly, a Big Mac sounds pretty tasty, but I don't know that I could swing it!! I'll trust that you enjoyed it enough for both of us :)
Glad to see you post. What an amazing love you and Ryan have for each other. Although, I already knew how strong it was. You make a great team, and will definitely win this fight.
Love you both so much and hope to see you soon!
