very good news

today was not so much about the quantity of good news, but the quality.

first, a brief history. ellen has been in acute renal failure since she completed her first round of treatment. this applies to the function of the kidneys. a normal, healthy number value for this function is around 1. when it starts to climb there is reason to be concerned. ellen's had climbed steadily to a 4 as of yesterday.

this morning it was 3.7.

while these medical terms may be lost on most of you (and all of us here, too), it has been the one thing that the doctors have been most concerned with. therefore, the news this morning is cause for celebration. we need the level to come back down so that she can safely have an mri. we need her to have an mri so that she can start her next round of treatment.

some of ellen's girlfriends came into durham last night. they came by late to say good night but have spent all of today at her bedside. amber, amina, angie, ashley, jen and natalie, thank you.

she has been steadily increasing her energy and has been eating more. dr. gollob targeted monday for her to return to the apartment.

keep the prayers and thoughts coming. she's only just begun to fight.

Wow you are sure testing my medical knowledge! I haven't had to remember any of this stuff since college.
A drop below 4 is good, if you can get it below 3, that will be great!!
I hope you enjoyed your visit from your friends and your aunts. Barb & Kath enjoyed seeing you!!

It's so good to read the news of the small miracles and baby steps to better, if not perfect, health. One day at a time.

This evening ASusie and I were shopping in Boardman, and saw your parents sitting outside when we drove down their street. We had a good catch up with everything that's been going on, and feel much relieved with Ellen's progress of getting out of bed, getting dressed, and taking short walks.

Having her friends visit was sure to cheer her up. It's lovely to hear that she actually enjoys the company...that can only mean one thing...that she's feeling somewhat better.

As always, we continue to pray for the little things that will lead to the bigger things.
love, as

Hi,
I don't know if Ellen would remember me or not, but my name is Jen Nigh (Patsko) and I went to B.G and was a Pi Phi for a time. Yesterday, I ran into Amy Grabfelder at a wedding and she told me about Ellen and about this website. Please know that you will be in our constant prayers and that we pray for Ellen's continued strength and positive attitude. Those things make a world of a difference!

Hi Ryan and Ellen:
Glad to hear the good news from yesterday. Hopefully, you will be heading for the apt. tomorrow.
I must tell you what happened today.... I went with Paul(he is the organist at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alliance) as he was asked to play the music at St. Luke's Lutheran Home in North Canton for the afternoon service for the residents. As the chaplain was offering prayers for the sick...........Ellen's name was mentioned - I got very teary eyed - but thought that was wonderful!! After the service, I asked the chaplain, Pastor Don Rice, if he knew Ellen. He said no, but that one of the residents knows Ellen or Ellen's mom. I think he said her last name was ?? Nimshi ?? No first name. Anyway, I was very glad I went with Paul.
We are keeping Ellen and all of you in our thoughts and prayers. Take care and hang in there.
Love,
Donna and Paul Cubick

Ellen and Ryan,
I am not suprised that Ellen is able to get up and out of bed. I remember skiing in Colorado when a skier from Italy crashed into Ellen going full speed. She showed her toughness then by getting up even though I was sure she had to of broken a leg. That same spirit can keep you going now.

Thinking of you, Jim Blake
